How to Apply Eye Shadow

How to Apply Eye Shadow - Dramatic Eye

You can use the dramatic eye technique if you are to attend special occasions, costume parties, or a photo shoot. If you feel like being bold and daring, you can use the dramatic eye technique as you wish.

Dramatic eyes can be achieved in a lot of different ways. You do not always have to go overboard when you want to do a dramatic eye. It also doesn’t mean that you always need to use dark and deep eye shadows colours. You can achieve a dramatic eye but still wear something classic and elegant.

Simple dramatic eye look

You can do this minimal make up technique and at the same time create a dramatic eye look. Pick colours that make your eyes pop. Pick a light eye shadow colour that contrasts with your eye colour. Apply the eye shadow to your upper eyelid area, on to your eye crease and up your brow bone area. Using the same colour, sweep the eye shadow on your lower lashes going from outer to the inner of your eyes.

Pick a darker eye shadow with the same shade and apply on your lower lash line. Using a pencil eye liner, line your upper lashes going from the inner of your eyes outwards. Line the inner rim of your lower eye lid with the same eyeliner then finish up with 2 coats of black mascara.

Dramatic cat eye look

This is a little more fancy compared to the eye technique above. A lot of celebrities sport this cat eye look. You just basically need to extend your eyeliner across your natural lash line. To achieve this look, apply your basecoat eye shadow using a light or neutral shade. If you want to go bolder, you can use a pastel shade as base. You only need to use one colour of eye shadow for this look. Sweep the eye shadow on your lower lash line.

When you line your eyes, it is best to use a liquid or gel eyeliner. You can use an angled brush liner dipped in a black or dark eye shadow and extend all the way out of your natural lash line. Smudge it a little for a more polished look. Apply two coats of mascara and use false eyelashes if you opt to. The final look should be a sexy, sultry cat eye look.

Intense Dramatic Eye Look

This is a more intense look for your eyes but is not that complicated to do. You just need a darker eye shadow colour. Apply your light neutral base colour all over your eye area, going from your upper eyelid to your brow bone. Your base colour should be lighter than your skin tone. Doing this step actually even outs the skin tone of your eyelids.

Next, pick a medium brown or taupe eye shadow colour. Apply this on 2/3 of your upper eyelid area, going right through your eye crease using an eye shadow brush. Using the same colour, apply on 1/3 of your lower eyelids using a small eye shadow brush. Make sure to blend well.

Apply black liquid eyeliner to your upper eyelid area starting from the inner to the outer corner of your eye. Extend across your natural lash line, similar to the cat eye look. Smudge the line using a sponge tip applicator. Put on false eyelashes and two coats of black mascara. Put on a highlighter to your brow bone and inner corners of your eyes.
